Shellfish.
Shellfish..
A special fish that has been given many names, such as “princess” and “queen” or “the holy God-fish” and “the virgin”. Whether it was its fearsome looks or its great size, something about the Atlantic halibut used to make Norwegian fishermen’s imagination run wild. A magnificent creature of the sea with its tasty and snowy white flesh, which is both juicy and firm. It is extremely versatile in cooking and can be boiled, steamed, grilled, fried or baked. Even the skin is tasty—and healthy!
According
to legend, the fish represented Balder, the Norse God of might and knowledge. As a result, fishermen showed respect and honor to the sacred halibut. It hasn't seemed innocent or laid-back to people regardless of this supernatural connection. On the contrary, this monster has always caused fishermen to feel a little and frequently a lot of fear. The Norwegian Atlantic halibut has always been a sought-after and exclusive commodity. Not only because it is such a magnificent creature of the sea, but mostly because it’s simply an excellent fish to eat. The fish has been so valued that, back in the day, at Norwegian weddings, the priest would sometimes get his bonus paid in halibut. It has large bones, but they are easy to remove. It’s no wonder catching a larger halibut has been considered a test of true strength and endurance for centuries.
The
so-called right-eyed flounders have the peculiar appearance of the Atlantic halibut, which is white above and brown-speckled below, with two protruding eyes on one side of the little head. However, it does not remain this way during its lifespan. It has eyes on each side of its head when it is born, just like any other fish, before going through a significant transformation.
The Atlantic halibut is rich in protein, vitamin D, vitamin B12 and selenium, an important antioxidant. It
is a nutritious food that is high in protein and particularly valuable since it contains omega-3 fatty acids, which are necessary fats that our bodies cannot manufacture on their own. It is also a great source of protein and potassium, and a high source of vitamins as well that can be a great help to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
